Describe in detail how a defendant may be processed through these separate judicial systems, including the appellate procedures that a defendant, adjudicated in state court, can use to petition the federal courts to review the case. Your response should include the jurisdictional authority of the courts, writ of certiorari, writ of habeas corpus, and the procedures commonly used by the courts to grant review of a decision by trial courts. Begin with a state judicial system (you may refer to a state judicial system from the textbook or your own state’s system) and progress to a discussion on the federal courts.
